Scripture: 1 John 1:1-7
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7
John is giving instructions for fellowship to God rather than gaining and keeping a relationship with God. First John is being written to instruct a church congregation about walking in the light as God does. It implies how we conduct our lives in darkness where we should be in the light. As the children of God we should be walking within the light so that we can feel the joy forgiveness and compassion that God the father has for us.
The Light of Life by Mark Lawrence |
The second half of the message states what takes place when believers do walk in the light :fellowship and a cleansing from sin. Three applications are given; first God's forgiveness, second believers will have community and friendship with one another. Third believers will experience love ,peace, understanding and the ultimate forgiveness. Hear God is focused on teaching us on walking with Him to avoid being deceived in the darkness, He wants us to walk within the light with Him.
